RF Alignment Technician
Location: Middlesborough
Salary: £40,000 – £60,000 per annum
Employment Type: Permanent, full-time
Visa sponsorship: Not available (UK rights to work required)
If you’re the kind of person who can look at an RF chain and immediately start thinking about gain, stability, noise and optimisation — keep reading.
If you enjoy being the one who takes a design and makes it perform exactly as it should — precisely tuned, perfectly aligned, production-ready — this role was built for you.
You won’t just be pressing buttons on test equipment.
You’ll be the bridge between engineering brilliance and real-world performance.
The Bigger Picture
You’ll be joining a long-established, highly respected engineering organisation that designs and manufactures high-performance RF, microwave and mmWave subsystems used in mission-critical communications. Their technology supports telecommunications infrastructure, aerospace & defence, space and other advanced sectors where performance simply cannot fail.
This is serious RF engineering.
And you’ll be right at the centre of it.
What You’ll Be Doing (And Why It Matters)
You’ll take responsibility for the precision tuning, alignment, calibration and testing of RF and microwave modules and subsystems before they move to production or delivery.
In simple terms — you make sure the hardware does exactly what the design says it should.
That means:
- Setting up and configuring RF test benches using signal sources, spectrum analysers, VNAs, power meters and related instrumentation
- Aligning and optimising amplifiers, filters, TR units, transceivers and other RF/mmWave modules
- Verifying output power, gain, frequency response, noise, stability, spurious performance and return loss
- Diagnosing and resolving issues at component and board level — drift, instability, unexpected behaviour
- Refining and improving alignment and calibration procedures to increase consistency and throughput
- Supporting new product introduction, helping transition prototypes into repeatable production builds
- Working closely with design, mechanical, electronic and production engineers to improve manufacturability and testability
- Maintaining accurate documentation and traceability of results, deviations and corrective actions
You won’t be working in isolation. You’ll be part of a collaborative engineering environment where your input genuinely improves the final product.
The Kind of Person This Suits
You’ll thrive here if:
- You enjoy hands-on RF work and solving real technical problems
- You take pride in precision and repeatability
- You’re comfortable operating high-end RF test equipment
- You like understanding why something isn’t performing — not just that it isn’t
- You naturally spot ways to improve processes and test setups
- You’re confident communicating with engineers and production teams
- You’re organised, methodical and quality-driven
If you’ve worked on RF, microwave or mmWave hardware and enjoy bridging the gap between design and production, you’ll feel at home.
Why You’d Want This Role
- You’ll work on advanced RF systems used in critical, high-performance applications
- You’ll gain exposure across design, test and production
- You’ll play a key role in NPI and product transition
- You’ll be part of a stable, well-established engineering organisation
- Your technical skill will directly impact product quality and customer delivery
This is not just another technician role.
It’s a position where your RF expertise genuinely matters.
If you’re someone who takes pride in getting RF hardware performing exactly as it should — and you’re ready to be part of a team delivering high-performance communication systems — this is worth a conversation.
